ICAN International
The International Cesarean Awareness Network, Inc (ICAN) was formed in 1982 in order to support women in their journey towards understanding the risks of cesarean section and with the purpose of helping them have healthy births and healthy lives after undergoing the surgery that changed them.
ICAN of Greater Cleveland
ICAN of Greater Cleveland is a chapter of the International Cesarean Awareness Network providing a non-judgmental atmosphere where feelings about birth experiences may be discussed freely; support for those who need help in dealing with their feelings about their birth experiences; education and information about childbirth and cesarean prevention to enable each birthing couple to make informed decisions that are right for them; and support for birthing mothers in both hospital and home settings. Free monthly meetings are held at the Brooklyn Branch of the Cuyahoga County Public Library at 7 PM on the 3rd Wednesday of every month (except December).
We acknowledge that the birth of every child should be celebrated and the experience of working for a VBAC should be honored as an act of great courage, no matter what the outcome.

Ohio Friends of Midwives
The Ohio Friends of Midwives (OFOM) is a non-profit, grassroots, consumer-based organization dedicated to supporting and promoting midwifery, particularly direct-entry midwifery, also known as "lay midwifery", as a quality health care option for Ohio women and their families. OFOM serves as an educational resource for the public and for both professional and non-professional groups who share an interest in the Midwives Model of Care for pregnancy, birth, and postpartum.
Ohio Midwives Alliance
Founded in 1984, Ohio Midwives Alliance (OMA) is a professional organization of midwives and their advocates who recognize and support the practice of midwifery in all settings.

A non-profit grassroots national organization whose goal is to see that the Midwives Model of Care is available to all childbearing women and universally recognized as the best kind of care for pregnancy and birth.

A great source for trustworthy up-to-date evidence-based information and resources on planning for pregnancy, labor and birth, and the postpartum period. Founded in 1918, Childbirth Connection is a national not-for-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of maternity care.
The Birth Survey
An ongoing online consumer survey, which is part of the Transparency in Maternity Care Project of the Grassroots Advocates Committee of the Coalition for Improving Maternity Services (CIMS). Women can provide feedback about their birth experience with a particular doctor or midwife and within a specific birth environment. Responses will be made available online to other women in their community who are deciding where and with whom to birth. Paired with this experiential data will be official statistics from state departments of health listing obstetrical intervention rates at the facility level.
BirthNetwork National
A leading a grassroots movement based on the belief that birth can profoundly affect a woman's physical, mental and spiritual well-being. BirthNetwork National advocates Mother-Friendly care, as defined by the Mother-Friendly Childbirth Initiative (MFCI). By making informed choices and having confidence in the process, families can experience safe and satisfying childbirth.
Coalition for Improving Maternity Services (CIMS)
A coalition of individuals and national organizations with concern for the care and well-being of mothers, babies and families whose mission is to promote a wellness model of maternity care that will improve birth outcomes and substantially reduce costs. The evidence-based Mother-Friendly Childbirth Initiative (MFCI)is the first and only consensus document on U.S. maternity care.
Mothers Naturally
This site is part of a public education program from the Midwives Alliance of North America with a goal to increase the number of safe and positive births by educating and informing the public about natural birth options and empowering women to make pregnancy and birth choices appropriate for their lives.
